Aftercare

If Dr. Lusk is handling aftercare, he will return to his vehicle and prepare transportation for your pet.*  You can choose to spend more time with your pet during this time. Once you have said your final farewell, please notify Dr. Lusk.

If he is not handling the aftercare, then Dr. Lusk will leave you together and offer his final condolences. We know this is never easy, so if you need a hug, don’t be afraid to ask.

*Please note: For larger pets, Dr. Lusk will have a stretcher available for your pet to be carried to the vehicle but may require an additional person for assistance.

Burial

At Home

You may choose to bury your pet at home. If your pet is more than 40 lbs, please ensure there is an additional person to assist in moving your pet. We recommend preparing the land prior to the euthanasia. If you choose to purchase a memorial marker or coffin, The Pet Loss Center of Austin has options available for purchase.

Pet Cemetery

You may choose to bury your pet in a local cemetery. Dr. Lusk includes post-euthanasia pet transport to the final resting grounds. Please make arrangements with the cemetery if this is the route you choose.

Cremation

Communal

In a communal cremation, your pet will be cremated with other beloved pets. No ashes are returned, however, you may request a paw print (clay or ink) and/or locke of fur by contacting the Pet Loss  Center. .

Individual

With this type of cremation, ashes will be returned to you in the urn of your choice. The crematorium will provide tracking for your beloved pet so you are comforted in receiving the ashes of you family friend. A lock of fur is provided and a paw print (see "Prices'), upon request.

Visit The Pet Loss Center of Austin for more information about cremation and purchasing urns.
